So when all the discussions were about whether Ghana could keep her hosting right for the AWCON 2018, a decision from CAF has ruled out the 2012 Champions Equatorial Guinea from the competition due to a petition filed by the Kenyans women national team.

Kenya who lost their final qualifying group match against Equatorial Guinea filed a petition against the 2012 champions for using
Anette Jacky Messomo, who had played for Cameroun’s Indomitable Lionesses.

Annete Jacky who claimed she has naturalized for Equatorial Guinea but a letter from the football federation of Cameroon dated August 30th, 2018 to CAF indicated that The player in question is a Camerounian and there was no request of naturalization from the Football Federation of Equatorial Guinea .

The Disciplinary Board Of CAF came to a conclusion after series of investigations to replace the 2012 champions with Kenya for the offense of using an unqualified player.

The tournament which is scheduled from November 17th to December 1st, 2018 have the Ghana as the host, the defending champions, Nigeria, Cameroun, South Africa, Mali, Algeria, Zambia and the Harambees starlets of Kenya for the main draw in Accra on Sunday, October 21.

Now the big question is why will CAF wait until such a late hour before bringing out this sanction after receiving evidence at least a month ago?

  1. It’s a good thing Kenya replaced the Equitorial Guineans. I believe justice has been served and it will serve as a lesson to all African countries who are in the habit of fielding unqualified players. My question is, is the Kenyan team prepared for the task ahead?
